Mystery Incorporated character Velma Dinkley has finally been depicted as gay in the latest animated movie, Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!

This would have been a very different movie.

Scooby-Doo's Velma Dinkley is a lesbian and was supposed to be "explicitly gay" in the 2002 movie, it has been confirmed.

Scooby-Doo and the Scooby Gang have been solving mysteries in one form or another since 1969 when the media company Hanna Barbera Productions first put them on television. Originally marketed as a kids show, generations of Scooby-Doo fans have remained loyal to the dog who's really a scaredy cat and his mystery-solving human companions. The Scooby Gang have roamed around in the Mystery Machine, looking for clues and solving mysteries for decades, as well as starred in two live-action films.

The Scooby Doo gang has been around long enough to influence childhood for multiple generations of viewers. Most people under the age of 50 can remember sitting down to watch the popular cartoon as a kid. Scooby-Doo was created in 1969 and his popularity has continued into the current year. There have been a lot of different adaptations of the characters and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
