Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is an almost completely fictional, highly-exaggerated telling of the early life and rise of the real-life comedian and musician Alfred Matthew Yankovic. As a kid, Al becomes interested in playing the accordion, but his father strongly discourages this as not normal. Al's mom purchases an accordian for him in secret, but when Al is caught at a polka party, Al's dad smashes it to pieces. Living with his roommates Steve, Jim, and Bermuda, Al tries to join a band as an accordion player but is turned away. A flash of inspiration when making a bologna sandwich leads him to replace the words from The Knack's "My Sharona", creating "My Bologna". He sends the song to a local radio DJ, which proves popular. Al attempts to secure a record contract with the Scotti brothers, but they tell him he needs to perform concerts first before they will consider a contract.
