Marc Smith has a storied history at Disney Animation. He began work as an intern at the Florida animation satellite studio, housed inside the Magic of Disney Animation attraction at what was then a young Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios), working as a in-betweener on Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, before graduating to a full-fledged animator on Hercules and Tarzan. After Chicken Little, he moved to the story department for Tangled, eventually becoming director of story on Frozen 2. Frozen 2, of course, wound up being the biggest animated movie of all time, …
Disney’s Frozen 2 is currently the biggest animated film of all time. And it’s easy to suspect that something so widely and instantaneously accepted, the world over, appeared one day, fully formed and ready for box office and pop-cultural dominance. But that’s not how it works. Making any Disney animated feature is a years-long process full of ups and down, snowy peaks and icy valleys, and all of that drama is captured exquisitely in the new Disney+ documentary series Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2. (All six episodes debut this week.) Through six episodes, you …
Disney+ isn't just home to great Disney movies, but great movies about Disney.
The making of a Disney animated film is, for the most part, a long and arduous process, full of false starts, speed bumps, and creative dead-ends. Sure, the end result is almost always magical, but the journey to get there is anything but. And it’s a process that’s rarely documented, with an eye towards emotional honesty and creative transparency. But with the new Disney+ series Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2, filmmaker Megan Harding attempts to make a really-for-real behind-the-scenes documentary, as is evidenced by the brand-new trailer. The trailer emphasizes the …
When Frozen was released back in 2013, it was far from a sure thing. The marketing was awkward and clunky, hiding the fact that it was a big, Broadway-style musical like the classics from the Disney Renaissance (instead it focused mostly on snuggly snowman Olaf) and its production, which began nearly 70 years earlier when Walt Disney spit-balled ideas for a semi-animated biographical film based on the life and work of Hans Christian Andersen, was incredibly difficult. When the movie became a genuine phenomenon, everyone was caught off guard, including retailers, which turned a talking Olaf plush …
Frozen II is the biggest animated feature of all time. It raked in over $1.4 billion worldwide, but during its production, it had to sit in the shadow of the original, a sleeper movie that became a worldwide phenomenon. How do you follow that up? What does that production look like? Thankfully, we're about to find out with Into the Unknown: Making Frozen II. The six-episode series will follow the final year leading up to the film's release as the creative forces behind the sequel try to wrangle the highly-anticipated movie into something that will …
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has reportedly joined up with Disney in an unknown voiceover role in exchange for a donation to charity.
For my Disney Dollars, Frozen 2 beats out the original animated feature in more ways than one. So while "Let It Go" obviously took over the entire world, and continues to pop up in sing-alongs still today, I much prefer the new banger "Into the Unknown." One reason is that it's mystical, magical hook was inspired by traditional Nordic herding calls known as "kulnings", adding some mythology to the haunting aspect of Elsa's story and the song itself. And as this new music video featuring nearly 30 languages confirms, the power of music transcends all language barries. …
Empire and Sense8 star Toby Onwumere has been cast in The Matrix 4; however, his role in the sequel is still unknown at this time.
Check out the complete sequence for the new Frozen II song.
Disney's animated sequel Frozen 2 is out here breaking all sorts of box office records, but if you're one of the people who still need a bit of convincing, here's the film's breakout banger of a ballad "Into the Unknown" in its entirety. Sung by Idina Menzel's Elsa, the song is basically the spiritual sequel to "Let It Go", made all the more magical by Menzel's trademark ability to turn a normal word into a work of art with about 16 more syllables than it originally had. Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, …
Which song is Frozen 2's "Let It Go"? Everyone's been expecting it to be "Into the Unknown", but after the film's release, that might not be the case.
