The return of Luke Skywalker in The Force Awakens was both a moment of emotional triumphant and consternation for fans of the daydreaming farmboy turned Jedi Master. He had little more than a cameo in the film, and the character development he went on to receive in The Last Jedi had a polarizing effect.
