Alvin Sargent (April 12, 1927 – May 9, 2019) was an American screenwriter who has written dozens of movies. He won two Academy Awards, one in 1978 and another in 1981, for his screenplays of Julia and Ordinary People. Before he became a writer he had a brief stint as an actor, portraying the role of "Nair" opposite Montgomery Clift in From Here To Eternity, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1953.
